ABOUT US
Carter Melloy is a journal for Travel & Hotel. Honest guides for the curious traveller, written by people who go, not by salesmen.
Who we are
We are a small crew of travel writers, former hotel staff and route planners who got tired of listicles that never mention the ferry timetable. Carter Melloy started in 2026 as a shared notebook of practical trip notes. Today it reaches thousands of monthly readers who want honest advice on where to stay, when to go and what a trip really costs.
We are not a media giant, and we do not want to be. A small team means every guide is written by someone who did the research, and every correction reaches a human who can fix it the same day. That is the whole advantage of staying small.
Our mission
We help readers plan a better week without the noise. Every week we publish free guides on Island Hopping, Mountain Trails, Boutique Hotels, Food Journeys and Scenic Routes: real 2026 costs, realistic timings and the details that only show up after arrival.
That means fewer dreamy descriptions and more useful specifics. When we say a ferry leaves at a certain time, we name the operator. When we say a hotel is good value, we show what the total bill includes. The guides are free because readers trust them, not because an advertiser paid for them.
Editorial standards
No sponsored picks, no pay-to-rank lists. We use primary sources, disclose relationships, and correct mistakes in public within 48 hours. Prices and timetables come from operators, local tourism offices and our own checks, never from a press release alone. If a claim fails verification, we say so.
We do not accept payment for coverage. If a hotel or tour operator sends unsolicited material, we either return it or mention it in the article. Any affiliate link is labelled, and it never decides whether a place appears, or how it is ranked.
The team
Carter Melloy (Editor, 12 years on the road), Mara Ellison (islands and ferries), Jonah Reed (mountains and trails), Sofia Marchetti (hotels), Elena Park (food journeys) and Daniel Okafor (scenic routes and rail). Supported by contributing researchers who check every guide before it ships.
Between us we have missed ferries, walked out of bad hotels and eaten very well in places with no sign outside. That experience is the only credential that matters here.
